Introduction

Bandreddi Sukumar is a popular Indian director; producer and screenwriter who work in Telugu film Industry. Complex and multilayer screenplay are the specialty of Sukumar. He is a director who is well known for introducing new characters in his films and showing the grey shade of characters. Bandreddi Sukumar is one of the highest paid directors from the South Film industry. Arya was his Directorial debut and the film success made him taste what real Stardom looks like. He also received Filmfare award for best director –Telugu for Arya. Thereafter he did not stop. 

Early Life

Bandreddi Sukumar was born in Mattaparru which in Andhra Pradesh. He belongs to an ordinary family where his father Tirupathi Rao Naidu was a rice trader and mother was housewife. He did his schooling from Zilla Parishad High School, Razole. He has done masters in Mathematics. He also worked as Mathematics and Physics lecturer in his initial days. He did not enjoy the same and with his junior Prakash Toleti they decided to do something creative.

Career

Bandreddi Sukumar initially worked as writer in Telugu film Industry. In his struggling days, he used to teach the students and earn money for living. He worked as an assistant director for Manasichi Choodu. He also assisted Editor Mohan for Kshemamga Velli Labhamga Randi and Hanuman Junction. He was assistant director to Film Dil with V.V. Vinayak.

Bandreddi Sukumar was getting ready with the script of Arya while he was assisting with Dil. Producer Dil Raju gave him assurance that he will produce the film if Dil becomes hit. After listening to the script of Arya, Raju was impressed and actor Allu Arjun was selected for the role. The film Arya was commercially successful and it earned ₹16 crore. He became a well known name in top director’s list in south film industry. 

He next worked on Jagadam, but unlike Arya, the film did not worked well. Bandreddi Sukumar was getting ready with the script of Arya while he was assisting with Dil. Producer Dil Raju came with the sequel of Arya called Arya 2 in the year 2009. The film start cast included Allu Arjun, Kajal Aggarwal, and Navdeep. The film did good business and was a commercial success. In the year 2011, he portrayed the relationship of young couples in his film 100% Love. It was a hit film.

Nenokkadine was a psychological thriller film directed by Bandreddi Sukumar. The film failed to entertain the audience and was a commercial failure. After the demise of his father, Bandreddi Sukumar worked for a new film called Nannaku Prematho which featured N. T. Rama Rao Jr. This was a beautiful film of relationship between son and father. It became highest engrossing film. 

In the year 2018, Bandreddi Sukumar came with a periodic action film called Rangasthalam which stars Ram Charan. The performance of actor and director both were appreciated and it became one of the highest grossing Telugu Films. In 2021, period action drama, Pushpa: The Rise was directed by Sukumar which featured Allu Arjun and Rashmika. The film was a blockbuster. It earned more than 350 crores. 

Bandreddi Sukumar also has a production company called Sukumar Writings. The first venture of this production house was Kumari 21F. Sukumar is working for his next films also. The next film he is producing is 18 pages. It was expected to release in 2022 but has been postponed. There is also one untitled film with Sai Tej.

Personal Life

Bandreddi Sukumar married to Thabitha. He met her during the screening of his directorial debut Arya. The couple has two children
