Introduction

Anthony Russo is an American director, producer, screenwriter, and filmmaker. Anthony Russo along with his brother Joseph Russo known as the Russo brothers and is one of the popular names in the Hollywood Film Industry for their outstanding direction. Both the brothers have directed some of the best and highest engrossing films such as the Marvel films Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame and You, Me and Dupree, Cherry.

Early life

Anthony Russo was born in Cleveland, Ohio, United States. His father did his schooling at Benedictine High School and graduated from the University of Lowa. His father is Basil Russo who was an attorney & Judge. Earlier his maternal parents were juggling poverty and worked in steel mills. Anthony graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and majored in business. After that, he turned to English. Along with his brother Joseph, they are well-known names in the Hollywood Film Industry.  He also produced and directed the comedy series Arrested Development during 2003-2005. Comedy was the first line that gave him success and this opened many doors of direction for him with his brother.

Film & TV Direction Career

To begin with, Television shows, Anthony Russo and Joseph directed TV series such as 'Arrested Development,' 'Lucky,' 'LAX,' 'Carpooler,' 'What About Brian,' 'Comedy Showcase' and 'Community, and 'Running Wild.' He was also an executive producer of 'Community,' and 'Happy Ending'. The list of other TV shows in which he was director and producer was 'Animal Practice,' 'Up All Night,' 'Deadly Class' and 'The Dangerous World Of Comedy' by Larry Charles, and more. 

Anthony Russo’s work along with his brother was appreciated by the audience and this was the reason why their shows were widely recognized. It was not easy for him to begin with his direction career. Anthony Russo along with his brother started direction by taking a student loan and credit card. The first film Anthony Russo directed with his brother was You, Me, and Dupree.

Anthony Russo’s direction career got a big turning point when he was given a chance of directing Marvel series movies. Some of the films Anthony Russo has directed are Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. Endgame was one of the highest profitable movies. It was a great commercial success film.

Anthony Russo along with his brother directed the next film called ‘The Gray Man’. It is an American action thriller film based on Mark Greaney's 2009 novel. The film script has been written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

Due to outstanding direction in the films, Anthony Russo along with his brother was nominated for various awards and he won many of them. His nominations include Saturn Award for Best Director, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Like the Russo brothers, his next nomination was for an NAACP Image Award for Best Director (Captain America: Civil War). For the television series 'Arrested Development' which was a comedy series, he won an Emmy award. He won the award for NAACP Image of Best Director for 'Captain America. Both brothers are also producing an animated film based on the book Superfudge. 

Not only he is a successful director, but he is a kind person also. Along with the brother he is helping young filmmakers to make films. It was not easy for them to establish themselves in the Industry. So, they have started a forum called The Russo Brothers Italian American Film Forum to give the new filmmakers opportunities and create some interesting films.
