Introduction

Aditya Dhar is one of the Emerging directors of the Indian film industry who received a huge appreciation for his directorial debut in the film URI: The surgical strike. He works in the Hindi film industry as a director, lyricist, and screenwriter. He started working in films as a screenwriter and lyricist, later with URI: Surgical strike he made his directorial debut. For his amazing direction in the film, he received many awards also such as National Film Award for Best Director and the Filmfare Award for Best Debut Director.

Early Life and Career

Aditya Dhar belongs from New Delhi. He is a Kashmiri Pandit. His mother's name is Dr. Suneeta Dhar is the Dean and Head of Music and Fine arts at the University of Delhi. He completed his primary education from a private school and graduation from Delhi University. From childhood itself, he wanted to be in the army. His interest in the army motivated him later on to make films related to the army and Indian soldiers. 

During his early life, he worked in a theatre group ‘Delhi Music Theatre’ (DMT) for almost 20 years. Thereafter he shifted to Mumbai in 2006. He was struggling at that time to get a job in the film industry. He was very fascinated by direction work and always looked up the way directors do their work in films. He developed an interest from that time only in the Direction field. He was mesmerized more by directors than actors. So, he always wanted to be one in the Direction field. During the year 2006, he also worked as an assistant to Director. For some time he also worked as RJ in Mumbai. Aditya Dhar was the lyricist for many films such as Haal-e-Dil, One-Two-Three, and Daddy Cool. He also wrote dialogue for the films like Aakrosh and Tezz. 

During the year 2016, Aditya Dhar was working with Dharma production on a film called “Raat Baaki”. The film stars Katrina Kaif and Fawad Khan. But due to a terrorist attack at Uri, Pakistani actors were banned and the film was incomplete. 

Aditya Dhar made his Directorial debut with the film URI: Surgical strike. The movie included stars such as Vicky Kaushal and Yami Gautam. The film was the highest engrossing film and was successful at the box office. It earned about 200 crores and was appreciated by the audience. The film brought a turn in careers of many artists including Vicky and Dhar. The film was based on the 2016 Uri attack. Aditya received two awards for this film which include National Film Award for Best Director and the Filmfare Award for Best Debut Director. He also received ‘The most Promising Debut Director' at the 26th Screen Awards (2019) for URI. 

Aditya Dhar started its own production house called Aditya Dhar films in the year 2021. His next film is announced and this time also he is working with Vicky. The film is a superhero movie The Immortal Ashwatthama. It also stars Sara Ali Khan. The movie started rolling in 2021 and was delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic. 

Personal life and other information

Aditya Dhar married Yami Gautam, an Indian actress in the year 2021 in a private ceremony. They dated for three years and then tied the knot. It is said that their relationship started while filming Uri: The surgical strike. Both were teamed up in the film URI also. Aditya love to watch movies and is fond of music. He is also a cricket fan and Virat is his favorite cricketer. Aditya Dhar was featured in “Noise”, a popular magazine in the year 2019. Aditya Dhar is looking for the next film The Immortal Ashwatthama which is expected to release in 2023.
