Introduction

Priyanka Chopra Jonas, an Indian actress, singer and film producer. The winner of the Miss World 2000 crown, Priyanka Chopra is one of most popular face of Indian cinema. She is very confident and a hard working girl, who has received many Filmfare Awards and National Film Award. The Government of India has also honoured her with the Padma Shri Award in the year 2016. Apart from her career Priyanka Chopra is also associated with promotion of various social causes such as environment and protection of women’s rights and has always been outspoken towards gender equality and gender pay gap. 

She has passion for singing and sung a few songs that are much loved by her fans which included three singles and a number of her film songs. She has always been on media coverage for her on screen and off screen life including her marrying an American singer and actor Nick Jonas and for her grand wedding function.

Early Life

Being born in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand Priyanka Chopra had to travel regularly and had to change schools due to her parents’ (Ashok Chopra and Madhu Chopra) profession as physicians in the Indian Army. The family was posted in many different places in India including Delhi, Chandigarh, Ambala, Ladakh, Lucknow, Bareilly, and Pune from where she had her schooling. At the age of 13 Priyanka Chopra moved to United States to study and attended schools in Newton, Massachusetts, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and in Queens, New York.

There she took part in many theatre productions, and also studied Western classical music, and choral singing. Here schooling was not easy for her as she faced racial issues and sometimes she was bullied for being an Indian. Later she returned back to India and completed her senior high-school education at the Army Public School in Bareilly.

It was during this time that she won local May Queen beauty pageant. She entered for the Femina Miss India contest of 2000 and stood second. Priyanka Chopra won the title of Miss World 2000 and was crowned Miss World 2000 and Miss World Continental Queen of Beauty-Asia & Oceania at the Millennium Dome in London on 30 November 2000. The Miss India and Miss World titles brought her recognition, and she started offers from Bollywood.

Acting Career

Priyanka Chopra made her Bollywood debut in the year 2003 as a second female lead in the movie The Hero: Love Story of a Spy. Later she appeared in Raj Kanwar’s Andaaz with Akshay Kumar and Lara Dutta for which she got Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She worked in a number of movies and kept experimenting with her characters and gave best to her roles. Her movie list includes Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Aitraaz, for which she won Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role, Blackmail, Waqt: The Race Against Time, Bluffmaster, Krrish, Don and many more. 

Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion proved to be a major turning point in her career and she won a number of awards for her performance in the movie including National Film Award for Best Actress, Filmfare Award for Best Actress, IIFA award and Screen Award for Best Actress, for her performance in 7 Khoon Maaf, she earned Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress. Her work in Anurag Basu’s Barfi, received a lot of appreciation, she played the lead role in a biographical film, Mary Kom for which she took boxing training, the film was premiered at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival and received a positive reviews.

Priyanka Chopra’s work expanded to American Films and Television shows, she played the character of Alex Parrish in American thriller series Quantico and was praised for her performance. She made her Hollywood debut by playing Victoria Leeds in Baywatch opposite Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron.
