Introduction

Nayanthara is an Indian actress and a film producer. She is also known as Diana Mariam Kurian. She is working in the Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam film industries. Till now she has done more than 75 films. She is one of the most talented actresses in the South film industry and won many awards for her outstanding performances such as Filmfare Award for Best Telugu Actress,  Filmfare Award for Best Malayalam Actress, and Nandi Award for Best Actress.

Early life

Nayanthara was born in Bangalore, Karnataka. Her parents Kurian Kodiyattu and Omana Kuria belong to Thiruvalla, Kerala. Her father Indian Air force officer, so she completed her education in different places i.e Jamnagar, Gujarat, and Delhi. She has completed her bachelor's degree in English Literature from Marthoma College, Thiruvalla. 

Acting career

Starting with modeling, Nayanthara got her first film offer Manassinakkare in 2003 and she accepted it after some time. The film was a successful one and with this, she got more film offers. Natturajavu and Vismayathumbathu were the two films released in 2004. From 2005-2007, Nayanthara worked in both Tamil and Telugu films.  With Ayya, Nayanthara made her debut in the Tamil film industry. During that time only she was signed for a comedy horror film Chandramukhi. The film was a big hit and after that, she was the most demanding actress in the south film industry. She also worked in Malayalam films Thaskara Veeran and Rappakal. During the period 2005-2007, some of the films in which she appeared are Kalvanin Kadhali, Lakshmi, Boss; I Love You, Vallavan, Thalaimagan, and E. Year 2007 to 2011 was the period when Nayanthara got public recognition and success.  Billa was the film with which she had a great comeback. In 2008, the films released were Yaaradi Nee Mohini, Kuselan, Satyam, and Aegean. For Yaaradi Nee Mohini, she won the Vijay Award for Favourite Heroine. 

In 2010, most of Nayanthara’s films released were successful which includes Adhurs (Telugu), Bodyguard (Malayalam), Simha (Telugu), Boss Engira Bhaskaran (Tamil), and Super (Kannada). The performance of the actress was outstanding in these films and the audience loved to see such a performance from her. Her next Malayalam film Elektra was screened at the International Film Festival of India and Dubai International Film festival.

In the year 2021, she did Krish’s Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum, in which she portrayed the role of a journalist. Her performance was praised by the audience. In the year 2013, she did Raja Rani (2013) and won both the Filmfare and Vijay Awards for Best Actress. The other in 2013 was Vishnuvardhan's Arrambamin where she worked with Ajith Kumar. 

In the upcoming year 2014, Nayanthara was cast in Anamika which was the remake of the Hindi film Kahaani.  Maya, Bhaskar the Rascal, and Thani Oruvan were the releases of the year 2015. Her film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in which she portrayed the role of a deaf girl taking revenge bagged the film Filmfare Award.

In 2016, Nayanthara was first seen in Puthiya Niyamam opposite Mammootty. Her role as a rape victim was one of the best performances to date. After performing outstandingly in women-centric films, she continued to do diverse roles in films. She played the role of the village-based school teacher in Thirunaal, a spy in Iru Mugan, and the queen of a fantasy kingdom in Kaashmora. Her Horror thriller Dora was released in 2017. In the year 2018, she did a Telugu-language film Jai Simha.

2019, Nayanthara played leading roles in Viswasam, Airaa, Kolaiyuthir Kaalam and Bigil. In the same year her Malayalam film Love Action Drama and Telugubiographical film, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy was released. 2020, she shared the screen with Rajinikanth in Darbar.
