Early Life

Asha Bhosle was born on September 8, 1933, in Sangli, which is located in the state of Maharashtra. Her father, Deenanath Mangeshkar, was a famous musician. Asha Bhosle's father was Marathi and her mother was Gujarati. Apart from Lata Ji, she had two more sisters, Meena and Usha Mangeshkar. Hridaynath Mangeshkar is AshaJi’s brother. Asha Bhosle was trained in classical music by Deenanath Mangeshkar. Deenanath Ji was a well-known singer and actor of his time. Asha Bhosle and her sister Lata started singing as children to earn money and improve the financial condition of their family. Deenanath Mangeshkar passed away very early. At that time, Asha was just 9.

Acting Career

Asha Bhosle started her career as a singer as a child. The first movie in which Asha Bhosle sang a song was Majha Bal. It is a Marathi movie. This film was released in 1943. The song is titled "Chala Chala Nav Bala". The first Bollywood song that Asha Bhosle sang was in the Hindi movie Chunariya, which was released in 1948. The title of the song is “Saawan Aaya”. Asha Bhosle has won Filmfare Awards seven times. 

She got a Filmfare Award in 1967 for her song in the movie Dus Lakh and again in 1968 for her song in the movie Shikar. In 1973, she received the Filmfare Award for the famous film “Hare Rama Hare Krishna”. In this film, she sang the song “Dum Maro Dum”. In the 70s, Asha Bhosle got many awards for her songs. Asha Bhosle was given the Special Filmfare Award in 1996 for the song she sang in the film Rangeela. She received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001. She has received National Award also. The Government of India gave Asha Bhosle Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000.

In the decade of the 1950s, Asha Bhosle sang some of the most famous songs for the top actresses of that time. OP Nayyar gave Asha Bhosle the biggest opportunity as a playback singer in the movie CID in 1956. Her first big hit and success was the song she sang in the film Naya Daur. This film was released in 1957. Asha Bhosle has sung many songs with famous singer Mohammad Rafi. In 1966, Asha Ji sang the famous song "Aaja Aaja" for the film Teesri Manzil, which became very famous. 

Asha Bhosle sang the song “Piya Tu Ab To Aaja” in the movie “Caravan”. The song was a big success. Asha Bhosle sang Ghazal in the famous actress Rekha's film “Umrao Jaan” in 1981. She has sung many cabaret-style songs and is well known for her pop songs. She sang songs for the movie Rangeela in 1995. Asha Bhosle continued singing in the later years also.
