Early Life

A. R. Rahman was born in Chennai. R. K. Shekhar, the father of A. R. Rahman was a South Indian musician and a Tamil music maestro. Rahman used to be present when his father worked in a music studio and this was the reason why he got a chance to learn the basics of music from an early age. A. R. Rahman started playing the piano when he was just 4 years old. Rahman’s father gave him a synthesizer and this made the young boy fall in love with music and practice more. Mr. Shekhar passed away early when A. R. Rahman was just nine. The boy decided to turn into a professional and began playing the piano for improving the financial condition of his family. A. R. Rahman quit school but won a scholarship for studying music at the famous Trinity College. 

Career

A. R. Rahman has achieved high fame and renown for the amazing music he has given to Hindi and Tamil cinema. He has been given the National award six times and Filmfare Award 15 times. The State Governments of Indian states like Tamil Nadu, U.P, and M.P have given an award to A. R. Rahman for the excellent music he has given. A. R. Rahman has also contributed to the music of other countries and he was awarded by the renowned Stanford University for this in 2006. The musician was given many awards for his music in the movie Slumdog Millionaire. He has won the Grammy Awards twice. A. R. Rahman was given an award for the music he composed for the movie Rangeela (1995). The Government of India gave Padma Bhushan award to A. R. Rahman in 2010. The music composer was given awards in the following years also. He continues to compose great music that his fans love.   

A. R. Rahman started learning music early when he was just 11 years old. He provided music for ads and documentaries. He composed the music for the ad for Titan Watch. The first movie for which A. R. Rahman composed music was Roja (the Tamil original movie), 1992. It was made into a Hindi dubbed version movie also. He opened a music studio in his home in 1992. The movie Roja won him a National Film Award (Silver Lotus) in 1993. A. R. Rahman gave music in many Tamil films after that. A. R.
