Introduction

Natalie Portman also initially known as Natalie Hershlag (Born in Israel) is an American Actress, who also worked in the Film Industry as a Director as well as a Producer. Her interest in the field was from a young age itself and she has been part of many big projects and portrayed the role of psychologically troubled women in so many independent movies for which she received a huge appreciation. Just at the age of 12 she started and acted in an action drama movie Léon: The Professional (1994). Making a debut at Broadway Theatre with The Diary of a Young Girl and thereafter she gained popularity with Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999), where she beautifully did as Padme Amidala. Continuing her bachelor's degree in psychology she was also engaged in acting in the Star Wars prequel trilogy from 2002 to 2005. Eve (2008) and A Tale of Love and Darkness (2015) are some of her pictures where she chaired the director's place. 

Early Life

Natalie Portman was born to Ashkenazi Jewish descent in Jerusalem. She was a single child of Shelley and she was a grandchild of Jewish immigrants to Israel. Some of the schools she attended were Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School and Solomon Schechter Day School of Nassau County. Mentioning about herself, she said that she was different from the rest of the kids and she was very clear from the beginning about her ambition and what she want to achieve. 

Career

After getting selected to audition for Léon: The Professional, she objected to some of the scenes, but after removing them she was comfortable with the content. She played the role of a suicidal stepdaughter in the action film Heat. Impressed by her performance in Leon, she was taken in comedy-drama Beautiful Girls (1996) by Ted Demme. The year 1999 to 2006 has the time when she was transforming into adult roles. She began as Padme Amidala in the Star Wars prequel trilogy which was the first biggest project. Although she faced many issues while shooting she came up nicely and the movie was the highest-grossing movie of that time. This movie made her a global star. In 1999, she completed her graduation from Syosset High School. 

She played a ballerina in Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan which was a psychological horror film and her outstanding performance was the outcome of disciplined routine and training. The movie was a big hit receiving over $329 million worldwide and Portman received Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the said movie. She was also part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero film Thor and it was also one of the highest-grossing movies of 2011. With this, she was placed at the top of the list of most bankable stars in Hollywood. Some of the movies which received a good response and were successful one are Black Swan, No Strings Attached, Thor, Thor: The Dark World, Jackie, and Annihilation (2018). 

Personal life

Natalie Portman meets her love while she was working on the movie Black Swan. She started dating Benjamin Millepied who is a French danseur and choreographer in the year 2009 and they married on August 4, 2012. They had two children son Aleph and daughter Amalia.

Activism & Awards

Love for animals tuned Natalie Portman a vegetarian at the age of 8. She escapes from wearing animal products and supports animal-friendly products. Her work is even awarded by Environmental Media Association. She is also a supporter of a political party.  She even raised her voice against sexual terrorism during the 2018 Women's March in Los Angeles. 

She won Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama and the Academy Award for Best Actress for Black Swan.
