Durgamati: The Myth Movie Review:

Bollywood had some of the movies in recent times that were based on the horror spirit like Stree and Tumbbad and this year it was Laxmii. Now the new release was Durgamati that is supposed to be remake of Telugu-Tamil horror drama Bhagmathie came in the year 2018. The plot is based on a bureaucrat (IAS officer) who is imprisoned for killing her partner and was taken in a haunted house for cross-examination.

The story turns unexpectedly when she came in contact of the spirit that takes control on her. The role of IAS officer is named Chanchal Chauhan that is played by Bhumi Pednekar.

Arshad Warsi is playing the role of Ishwar Prasad, who is a famous political leader. At the first session, he is depicted as a devoted leader towards the nation whereas the reality turns to be different at the end of the movie.

Talking about the performance of the lead role, Bhumi Pednekar’s performance cannot be said to be of that level as it was of Anushka Shetty’s in BHAAGMATHIE. At some emotional points, her skills can be seen. She has done well in the character of Chanchal. But at some point where she was put in histrionic situation, the same was not seen as expected. The place where she narrates the story in the Durgamati role was lacking something.

The essence of such horror movie that is gripping for narratives, drama and thrill is missing. Also while watching the movie; it seems to be a low-grade production. Many things lacks when it is compared with the original one made by Ashok.  The supporting actors like Jisshu Sengupta and Mahie Gill also played their part well as required by the character.
