Fans to wait till appropriate time comes for Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone's 83
Cricket Film '83' to release in theatres and not on OTT Media Services
Long awaited release of Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone's 83 movie depicting India's first-ever Cricket World Cup victory, directed by Kabir Khan, had been put on hold due to the outbreak of Covid-19.
Ranveer Singh starring in the lead role as legendary cricketer Kapil Dev shared his concern on social media and wrote, “83 is the entire nation’s film. But, with the onset of Covid-19, health and safety always comes first. Stay home Stay safe. Take care and we will be back soon!"
The Kabir Khan directorial, movie 83 was scheduled to release on 10 April, where fans were eagerly waiting to watch the iconic moment on-screen when India won the first-ever cricket World Cup under Captaincy of Kapil Dev in 1983. Ranveer Singh will play the role of World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev, Deepika Padukone, his wife steps into the shoes of Romi Dev. The film also stars Ammy Virk, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Hardy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar and Saqib Saleem.
With movies like "Shershaah", "Jhund", "Laxmmi Bomb" aiming to release through OTT platform, there were speculations that Cricket film '83' would follow the same.
But, recently Taran Adarsh, trade analyst officially announced that there are no plans of releasing the movie via OTT platforms and when the "appropriate" time comes the movie will be out in theatres.
According to the statement given by Kabir Khan, 83 a sports film has been envisioned for big-screen entertainment and there is no intention to take it to the small screen. Being positive that things will get back to normal in the next 4 to 6 months. However, if there is no good news coming even after six months, we will take appropriate actions.
