Introduction

Samantha Ruth Prabhu is an Indian actress working in the South Film Industry, particularly in Telugu and Tamil movies and recipient of many film awards including 4 Filmfare awards. She made her debut in the film industry with Ye Maaya Chesave (2010) and then she was a star. She was awarded Filmfare Award for Best Debut Actress and a Nandi Award. Not only an actor but she is a woman of gold heart. She is also engaged in social work through her NGO Pratyusha. She contributes her earnings to support women and children through this organization.  

Early life and family

Her mother Ninette Prabhu was from Kerala and her father Joseph Prabhu was from Telugu. She was brought up in the state of Tamil Nadu. Having parents from different backgrounds, she was raised as Tamilian. Samantha Ruth Prabhu has two elder brothers Jonathan and David. She completed her schooling at Holy Angels Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School and graduation from Stella Maris College, Chennai. Her interest in modelling and the film industry was seen in her earlier college days itself as she worked part-time on many modelling assignments while completing her bachelor of commerce.

Career

Gautham Menon’s Ye Maaya Chesave was the movie through which she got a breakthrough in the film industry. Samantha Ruth Prabhu disclosed that Menon had a great role in transforming her as an actress. She received huge appreciation for her film from critics as well as the audience. She collaborated again with Menon and A.R. Rahman in a music video for the World Classical Tamil Conference 2010. The other releases of the year 2010 were Baana Kaathadi, Moscowin Kavery, and Brindaavanam which featured NTR Jr and Kajal Aggarwal and she played a supporting role. 

Telugu film Dookudu with Mahesh Babu was a game-changing film in her life and this film turned into a blockbuster movie of all time. She was seen in a guest appearance in the movie Nadunisi Naaygal. She also signed Mani Ratnam’s Kadal and Shankar's I (2015), but due to skin disease, she could not work for two months and had no option to choose one.  S. S. Rajamouli's live-action Telugu-Tamil Eega portrayed her as a micro artist and she said that film had so heavy lights that troubled her, but still, she was satisfied with her role. She won the Best Actress award in Filmfare Awards 2012 for both the Tamil and Telugu film industries for her outstanding performance in Neethane En Ponvasantham and Eega. Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu with Venkatesh & Mahesh Babu proved to be a commercial hit. In the year 2013, her movie Jabardasth did not do well while Attarintiki Daredi was the highest-grossing movie. Manam, Alludu Seenu, Autonagar Surya, Rabhasa, Anjaan, Kaththi and S/O Satyamurthy were some of her movies in the year 2013-2015.

In 2016, she made a guest appearance in the movie Bangalore Naatkal. She was once again paired with Vijay in the movie Atlee's Theri and her performance received positive reviews. She beautifully played different roles such as a doctor, lover and mother. In A Aa she was opposite Nithiin and this movie purely belonged to her. She even received Filmfare Awards in the category of Best Telugu Actress Award. Koratala Siva’s action film Janatha Garage was a hit which featured Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Pairing up again with Vijay in Atlee's Mersal was another hit and the most grossing film on 2017. She further got an appreciation for her work in Rangasthalam and Mahanati. 

Personal life

Due to her illness in 2012, she was away from work and during this time she left many major projects. Samantha Ruth Prabhu is married to Naga Chaitanya in Goa in 2017 as per both Hindu and Christian customs.
