Shah Rukh Khan was born in New Delhi to Muslim parents. His father’s name is Mir Taj Muhammad Khan while his mother is Lateef Fatima. Mir Taj participated in the independence movement of India in Peshawar in Pakistan and shifted to New Delhi when India became independent and was separated from Pakistan in 1948. In Delhi, he was a resident of the Rajendra Nagar area. Shahrukh Khan has an elder sister Shehnaz Lalarukh who lives with him in Mumbai.
Shah Rukh Khan was sent to St. Columba’s School for education. He was a good student and did well in his studies. Taking a keen interest in sports and games, he participated in hockey and football. Mir Taj, Shahrukh's father expired in 1981 after being affected by cancer. His mother also left the world ten years later in 1991 and died due to diabetes complications.

Shah Rukh Khan won the Critics Award For Best Actor in the movie Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. He received another Filmfare Award For Best Actor for the movie Chak De! India.
