A student of the National School of Drama (NSD) and a famous actor in Bollywood, Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been able to establish himself well in the Hindi movie industry of India. He has an attractive personality well suited for his roles in Hindi movies. People know Nawazuddin Siddiqui by his nickname Nowaz. Nawazuddin’s birthplace is Budhana in Muzaffarnagar in UP. Bollywood recognizes the contribution of Nawazuddin Siddiqui to the cinema and promotes the Indian film industry on a national and international level. 

Early Life

Nawazuddin Siddiqui was born in UP in a small town to his father Late Nawabbudin Siddiqui and his mother Mehroonisa. His father was a farmer. A Muslim by religion, Nawazuddin Siddiqui is from a zamindar family known as a Lambardar. Nawazuddin Siddiqui is a Sunni Muslim. He has many younger siblings and he is the eldest of them. Among the siblings of Nawazuddin Siddiqui are 8 younger brothers and 2 younger sisters. During his childhood days, Nawazuddin had to face a lot of struggles with the lack of electricity as one of them. However, it didn’t discourage him and he continued his studies with the help of a lamp. 

If we look at the education of Nawazuddin Siddiqui, he has done BSC Chemistry degree during his graduation from Haridwar. He took interest in declamations and other co-curricular activities like drama and art during this time. Nawazuddin Siddiqui took up the job of a chemist in Vadodara in a chemist shop. After doing this job for one year, he went to Delhi for employment. It was in Delhi that the seeds of acting were sown in his mind and he participated in drama. For this, Nawazuddin Siddiqui became a member of a theatre group.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui felt a lack of enough money in this field, which made him become a watchman. Nawazuddin Siddiqui worked as a watchman for five years. He also joined the prestigious acting school of India, the National School of Drama. This was a turning point in his life that propelled his acting career and provided an entry gate to the film industry. Nawazuddin Siddiqui learned his basic acting skills from NSD. After that, he shifted to the land of Bollywood, the great city of Mumbai. His life was not so easy here. Nawazuddin Siddiqui lived in the house of his senior at the National School of Drama and since he had no work, his circumstances forced him to work as a cook there. 

Acting Career

Having left Delhi after completing an acting course, Nawazuddin Siddiqui entered the world of movies when he migrated to Mumbai. His debut in the Hindi film industry was in the movie Sarfarosh in 1999. The main star of this movie was Amir Khan. After this, Nawazuddin Siddiqui acted in some movies like Shool in 1999 and Jungle in 2000. In 2003, his short film The Bypass and Hindi movie Munnabhai MBBS were released. Nawazuddin Siddiqui went without any work during 2002-2005. He utilized this time by taking part in acting workshops. 

Nawazuddin Siddiqui became known to the public for his song Emotional Atyachar with partner Rasila in Dev D movie in 2009. Some of its memorable films of Nawazuddin are New York (2009), Peepli Live (2010). In the year 2012, some films like Patang: The Kite, Talash, Kahaani, Gangs of Wasseypur, and Miss Lovely were released.


Nawazuddin’s debut in Bollywood was in the movie Sarfarosh in which he played the role of a terrorist. The main theme of the movie was cross-border terrorism. The film got a good response from people and critics. It was a commercially successful movie. Nawazuddin acted in the movie Dekh Indian Circus which received the National Film Award. His movie Talaash got the Asian Film Award For Best Supporting Actor. The movie Lunchbox received the same award by Filmfare. Nawazuddin’s movie Manto was showcased at the international film festival at Cannes. He has contributed to society in a humble way of his own. When he went to Cannes, he learned farming techniques and brought an advanced irrigation system from there to his village so that farmers could benefit from it.
